Making Pancakes and LED Face Masks: What Our Editor Is Loving in July
From films to hotels, here's what's caught my attention this month, writes Bed Threads Editor Rachael Thompson.
How is it July already!? We're in the middle of winter here in Australia, and I don't think I'm alone in living vicariously through people's social media posts of them in the warmth of Euro summer. Lucky for me, I have a holiday booked so I'm gearing up for balmy days in linen.
But for those of us who don't have upcoming travel plans, I hope some of the below will entertain you. I'm sharing a brilliant novel I've just finished, my latest skincare obsession, and a tasty recipe to hit that sweet spot.

Read: The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham
I'm an avid reader, but rarely do I pick up classic literature. I did, however, just read The Razor's Edge. Published in 1944, this novel tells the story of Larry Darrell; a young, former American pilot traumatised by his experiences in World War I and his search for the absolute. He encounters characters along the way, each representing different approaches to life and happiness, including his upper-class fiancée.
What I love about this novel is how it explores existential themes and raises questions about the purpose of life, the nature of happiness, and the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, all while painting lavish images of fabulous parties and travelling abroad.
If you enjoy themes of personal growth and self-discovery, this book might just be for you. I'd also recommend this to anyone who is a The Great Gatsby fan.
Buy: Limoncello Linen Long Sleeve Shirt
If, like me, you're heading on a summer holiday soon you might be on the hunt for something light and easy to wear. For me, one of those options will be our Linen Long Sleeve Shirt in Limooncello. This colourway makes me feel summery and linen is nice and breathable so it will help keep you cool and comfortable in the heat.
If you're not heading anywhere and it's winter for you, linen is a temperature-regulating fabric which means it will keep you warm this season as well – it's the perfect piece of sleepwear.

Make: Lucky Dragon Supper Club's Dutch baby pancakes
I don't enjoy cooking, but I do love eating, and these this tasty treat is easy to make and delicious. Also known as a German pancake, these large, fluffy, pancakes make for an indulgent breakfast or brunch treat. You can choose any fillings you like. I like the idea of vanilla ice cream, strawberries, raspberries, and a generous pour of maple syrup.

Buy: Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro
I've gone most of my life doing the absolute minimum when it comes to skincare. For a long time, I felt like I should just let my skin do what it wants and hope for the best. More recently, I enjoy adding little self-care practices to my day to make me feel like I'm looking after myself. This has included lying in bed for three minutes with this LED face mask on.
This mask utilises red light to help smooth wrinkles (if that's your thing!), diminish discolouration, and clear acne. My skin is quite fine as is, but I have noticed it feels super smooth at the moment, which can't be a coincidence... right?
I also love how low-maintenance it is! All I have to do is lie there and wait. If you're a skincare fanatic, or you want to do the bare minimum, I'd give this one a go.

Watch: The Grand Budapest Hotel
I've been saying for the last year or so that I want to get more into film. Have I been successful? No. BUT the #wesanderson trend where users reimagine their lives in the aesthetic of the director's iconic style inspired me to at least watch something. And that was The Grand Budapest Hotel.
I love this film so much. I'm actually astounded by how brilliant the cast is – Ralph Fiennes and Saoirse Ronan are such a joy to watch. The meticulously crafted sets and costumes make it visually stunning and the script made me laugh multiple times. 10/10 recommend.
