How our Growth Manager Steph Completely Changed her Morning Routine
She’s beauty, she’s grace, she just launched Bed Threads stores in the United States!
“Is there anything she can’t do?” is a common refrain when you meet Bed Threads' Growth Manager Stephanie Squadrito. From organising all of our campaign shoots, to flying halfway across the world to set up Bed Threads pop-ups in America, Steph is responsible for a huge part of Bed Threads' success.
Steph joined Bed Threads’ in 2019, back when there were only a handful of shades, and the thought of having a furniture line, international artist collaborations, and over 26 colours was an unattainable dream. It was with Steph’s help that Bed Threads went from saying ‘ah... one day’ to ‘today’s the day’.
Mornings for Steph used to be rushed, sometimes waking up 15 minutes before leaving the house or logging on for work; until a book on habits changed everything.
Ahead, Steph shares with us how she completely transformed her morning routine, and the tricks she uses to stay on track during the work day.
Hi Steph! Welcome to the Bed Threads Team Morning Routine Series! Can you tell us a little bit about what you do at Bed Threads?
I look after areas of growth for the business, whether that means leading new product development, marketing to new audiences, or investigating new sales channels. I also look after the product shoots and home tours for The Makers – one of my favourite parts of the job!
What time do you typically wake up? Can you walk us through your morning routine?
I do outdoor group fitness training (I hate calling it bootcamp!) three times a week, so I wake up at 5.30 am on those mornings. I have everything laid out beside my bed, so once my alarm goes off I’m immediately up and getting ready. (Side note: I was never a morning person until I read Atomic Habits by James Clear. It changed everything for me!) Watching the sunrise from under the Harbour Bridge as I exercise is one of the best parts of my day. On non-bootcamp mornings, I aim for a 45-minute walk around my neighbourhood or just enjoy a sleep in.
Once I’m back home, I cook a hot breakfast and eat it while I watch mindless television on the couch. After that, I shower, tidy the house, and either log on to work at 8 am if I have early meetings, or do some life admin before logging on at 9 am. That means by the time I start work I’ve accomplished a fair few things that are just for me, and once I log off from work at 5 pm I can basically be a potato.
What are some essentials that you can’t start your day without?
- Food! I’m not one of those people who can skip a meal. I love settling into a decent breakfast – it helps my brain switch on.
- Comfy clothes. I organise whatever I need to wear the day before, as my mind can’t deal with too many decisions first thing in the morning. I always prioritise comfort so that I’m not distracted at all throughout the day!
- Fresh air. I love to get outside at some point – even if it’s just on my balcony – to see the sun and breathe a little. When you’re working from home it’s easy to just spend all day at the desk so starting the morning outside helps set a nice tone for the day.
If there could be one thing you could change about your morning routine, what would it be and why?
I’m pretty happy with it currently! I used to wake up 15 minutes before I needed to leave the house or start work, so changing that a year and a half ago really helped my mood and energy levels.
Is there anything aside from coffee that helps when you feel too tired to function?
A cold water splash to the face always helps. I also find that just thinking less about how little sleep I got helps (delusion is key). If I’m really beyond tired, I try to go easy on myself and reorganise my day so it requires a bit less from me.
What do you love most about your position here at Bed Threads?
It’s pretty different every day and I love being able to work with different teams – from Operations, to Ecommerce, to Content – on all our various projects. It’s also basically impossible to be bored!
Which Bed Threads colourways do you currently have on your bed?
Hazelnut, Lavender and Terracotta! I love how warm and cosy it is.
What’s a bad habit or guilty pleasure you do in the mornings?
Watching terrible reality television while I eat my breakfast is the best guilty pleasure. There’s nothing like a bit of Selling Sunset before work.
What are your thoughts on...
Snoozing
No! I can’t help it every now and again but it’s honestly never worth it.
Coffee
Yes! It’s a full cream cap for me (hopefully with lots of chocolate sprinkles).
Morning exercise
Big yes :)
Morning shower or night shower?
Morning shower after exercise, but if not I like a hot shower to wind down before bed. Honestly, sometimes both!
