11 of the Best Mother-Daughter Movies and Series on Netflix Right Now

Although spending the weekend binge-watching Bridgerton, The Queen's Gambit or another hit Netflix series by yourself is the definition of relaxation, what's even better is having someone to watch TV with - and your very own mother makes for the perfect company.

While we wouldn't exactly recommend watching Bridgerton with her (unless you know those raunchy scenes won't cause any awkwardness), we've rounded up 11 of the best mother-daughter movies on Netflix that will make you two laugh, cry and realise how luck you are to have one another in your lives.

11 Best Mother-Daughter Movies and Series on Netflix Right Now

1. Ginny & Georgia

Think of this Netflix Original series is like Desperate Housewives meets Gilmore Girls meets thriller. The series follows the complicated dynamic between 30-something-year-old single mom Georgia (played by Brianne Howey) and her teenage daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) as they move to the New England town of Wellsbury for a fresh start. However, Georgia's dark past and secrets quickly begin to unravel, putting relationships to the test. The series has also been renewed for a Season 2, so you better binge-watch the first season now.

2. Yes Day

Ice cream for breakfast? Water balloon battles? The kids choosing their parents' outfits? For one day, a mom (plays by Jennifer Garner) and dad (played by Edgar Ramirez) who usually say 'no' decide to say 'yes' to their three children's wildest requests for a day full of fun an adventure. However, things spiral out of control...

3. She's the Man

It's one of the most iconic rom-com movies that never seems to disappoint (no matter how many times you've watched it) and features a stellar A-list cast (hello, Amanda Bynes, Channing Tatum, Robert Hoffman, and Laura Ramsey). Inspired by William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night, the film is about teenager Viola Hastings, who enters her brother's new boarding school in his place and pretends to be a boy in order to play on the boys' soccer team.

4. Emily in Paris

This series polarised viewers worldwide since season one landed on Netflix on October 2. Just like Normal People and Bridgerton, audiences were so obsessed with Emily in Paris that it's now been confirmed season two has commenced filming.

While intended to be a fluffy rom-com, the show did copped a lot of criticism; critics took issue with the show's implausible premise and reliance on cultural stereotypes, and stunning every American-in-Paris cliché that has ever existed. Meanwhile, supporters relished in the show's featherweight tone and complete lack of realism. You can be the judge when you watch it with your mom.

5. Otherhood

This is a heartfelt and soulful celebratory comedy about three mothers exploring the stages after motherhood. For the mothers, it's about redefining their relationships with their children, friends, spouse and most importantly, themselves. Grab the tissues, because this one will leave you crying when you're not laughing.

6. Dumplin'

A made-for-Netflix movie, it's based on a young adult novel of the same name. While it's really fun to see Jennifer Aniston play the role of a former beauty queen and pageant obsessive, it's her “plus-size” daughter Willowdean (nicknamed Dumplin' by her mother) who steals the show. Willowdean's journey to self-acceptance in the face of body standards is emotional but it’s also entertaining. Expect Dolly Parton tunes, sequins and drag queens.

7. A Bad Moms Christmas

A sequel to Bad Moms, A Bad Moms Christmas is a hilarious take on the Christmas holidays. Starring Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, the movie pokes fun at the high expectations put on mothers to decorate, cook, and plan out family events.

8. What to Expect When You're Expecting

Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz star in this feel-good tale about the lives of couples through pregnancy and impending parenthood. With so many ups and downs, this rom-com will have you laughing one minute, and crying the next.

9. Good Girls

This TV drama centres around three suburban mothers who stage a grocery store robbery. Both witty and suspenseful, this female-led drama will have you on the edge of your seat.

10. Workin' Moms

The premise of the show is simple: four moms return to work after maternity leave. Irreverent and cynical, this series speaks of the challenges facing women as they navigate their career, new motherhood, and relationships.

11. The Let Down

This Australian TV series isn't afraid to show the messy sides of being a mom. From being kicked out of a cafe for breastfeeding, to dealing with her ex's new girlfriend, the protagonist Georgia battles through life with her new baby.
