Remember when we used to throw on a wide-brimmed hat, floral maxi skirt, and a tattered pair of gladiator sandals and call it a fit? Yeah we’d rather not either. Some trends are meant to stay in the past, but unlike the outfits you used to rock in the early 2000s, interior trends from bygone eras are slowly making their way back into our homes – and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Maybe it’s our innate desire to be connected to the past, or perhaps the natural trend cycle rejecting the craze of the moment to make way for updated looks that pay homage to life before now; either way, the interior world has been reviving some looks we haven't seen in a while, and it's safe to say we missed them dearly.

We've pinpointed five of our favorite interior trends that are currently having a renaissance, and we hope you adore them as much as we do.

1. Luxurious accents

From piped borders and scalloped edges to bullion fringes and tassels, we’re currently living in a textile accent renaissance. These luxurious finishes were once commonly found in grandmillennial and English cottage-style homes, but in recent months these elevated edges are making themselves comfortable in more modern and minimal spaces. From couch edges and cushion trimmings, to bed frames and counter skirts these fanciful features add a little excitement and comfort to any space.

2. Antique chairs

A great way to display cushions, complement a side table, or just act as a focal point for a space, an accent chair is one of the oldest rules in the book when it comes to styling a room. Where we’re starting to see a shift with this interior design choice is with the types of chairs that are being added to homes. Vintage arm and dining chairs are taking center stage in living spaces, adding character and intrigue to otherwise ‘modern’ settings. Unlike newer variations, antique chairs can be treated like a piece of art in a space, similar to a sculpture on display in a living room.

3. Pops of red

We can’t say a pop of color is anything new when it comes to interior design, but an unsuspecting color in particular is popping up in different rooms around the home. What used to be the most feared shade in the interior design world, is now a welcome hue that can tie a whole look together. If you haven’t guessed it by now, we’re talking about red. She’s bold, she’s bright, and when styled correctly, she’s beautiful. We’re starting to see playful pops of red appear in vases, artworks, cushions, and coffee table books, which is a refreshing styling take on the days of ruby red feature walls and rubescent velour sofas.

4. Colorful kitchens

Perhaps one of the most exciting trends having a big revival at the moment is the transformation of millennial grey kitchens to colorful culinary quarters. From pastel cabinetry to bold tile splashbacks, kitchens are becoming fun again and we couldn’t be happier about it. Some time ago, for whatever reason, an unwritten rule came into existence and permeated the bathroom design scene for decades. Yep, that’s right, we’re talking about plain towels. Don’t get us wrong, we love a plain towel as much as the next person; timeless, simple, and forever chic, but in recent months we’re starting to see playful and patterned alternatives usurp the plain towel throne. From bold check patterns to 70s inspired groovy floral prints, a patterned towel is the perfect (and easiest) way to zhuzh up your bathroom, and turn an otherwise dull space into a fun one.
