'The White Lotus' Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

The third season of our favourite show has just been confirmed.

Have you been obsessing over the second season of The White Lotus on Binge? Us too. Beyond the holiday jealousy and vacation inspiration we’re getting, spending week after week dreaming of an Italian sojourn at a resort in Sicily, what we’re addicted to this season is the mystery. Learning more about these characters every week and their relationships has us hooked. What is the truth about Daphne and Cameron’s marriage? How safe is Tanya in that villa with her “high-end gays”, now that her assistant Portia is being kept away from her? And of course, the biggest mystery of all… Who is going to be the dead bodies that Rocco and Valentina were talking about in the first episode?

The final episode will air next week, and judging by the cliffhanger that we got left with this episode, we think it’s going to be a big one. It was like this with the first season of The White Lotus too, which came out of nowhere in 2021. The satirical HBO series about a group of wealthy holidaymakers on a Hawaiian resort holiday from hell, and the staff members tasked with dealing with their agonising foibles, arrived on Binge in the middle of 2021 and completely captured our attention.

The series, created by Mike White was filmed on location in Hawaii during the pandemic and featured a murderer’s row of comedic talent. Australian Murray Bartlett starred as the increasingly despairing hotel manager, Jennifer Coolidge as an eccentric guest, Natasha Rothwell as the spa manager she befriends, Connie Britton and Sydney Sweeney as a mother-daughter duo at odds with each other, and Jake Lacey and Alexandra Daddario as a young couple on their honeymoon realising that perhaps they might have jumped the gun. Of all the cast, Coolidge was the only character who returned for season two.

Following the success of season two, HBO has officially greenlit a third season. We run down everything you need to know about The White Lotus season 3.

What has creator Mike White said about The White Lotus season three?

Mike White, the creator of The White Lotus – fun fact, he’s also the star of School Of Rock, in which he played Jack Black’s friend and roommate – has been very clear about the fact that he wants to continue making the platform. The comedian and writer wants to continue making White Lotus but change the resort each season. The first season takes place in Hawaii, the second in Sicily, which means the third season could be perfect for a resort in Asia, South America or even another destination in Europe.

When the third season was announced, he said in a statement: “I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, White actually admitted that he had an idea for a third season – but doesn’t want to share all the details yet as he might still use it. The idea was initially one he had for season two, before he settled on Sicily instead.

“I might still do it down the road maybe, if they give us a third season, so I don’t know if I should say. Originally, it was more of like a Bilderberg conference, more about getting into some of the bigger power dynamics there. But Sicily was a different vibe than the idea I pitched. That didn’t seem right,” he said.

Bilderberg conferences are where the world’s richest and most powerful players come together in a luxury destination. You might have seen versions playing out in seasons of Succession, but we’d be lying if we weren’t very excited to see what The White Lotus could do with this concept. As long as Coolidge gets to come back.

When can we watch The White Lotus season three?

The third season has only just been greenlit, but if it can be produced in early 2023, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t be able to watch it by the end of next year. For example, the second season was filmed from February of this year for six months and was released on October 31 on Binge. Fingers crossed. We’ll keep you updated the second we hear more.
