These are the Best New Shows to Watch on Netflix in December
The silly season is well and truly upon us, which means long summer days and eating our weight in delicious homemade treats. While we're excited about the thought of taking cool dips in the sea and catching up with family and friends, Netflix has just released its December lineup so it looks like we'll be using any days off to binge new seasons of some of our favourite series and making our way through the assortment of crime docos, classic films and comedies on offer.
The Confession Killer
Our true crime obsession is in full swing lately, and on the top of our must-watch list is The Confession Killer, which chronicles the story of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas who was able to baffle police with a web of lies before confessing to over six hundred murders in the 1980s. This five-part docuseries is intoxicating viewing, featuring a twisted timeline and an extensive investigation into the truth.
Ghost
This iconic romance/fantasy/thriller is finally coming to Netflix and we can't wait to rewatch all of the 90s goodness that is Ghost. With a star-studded cast featuring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, this Netflix release calls for a movie night at home.
Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer
As teenager Luka Magnotta went on a spree of uploading videos of himself torturing and killing animals, the internet reacted by taking things into their own hands and going on a vigilante hunt to find him. Before he was found after fleeing from Canada to Berlin, he was seen online murdering an international student he met on an online dating site. You'll be gasping in disbelief throughout this shocking documentary.
I, Tonya
I, Tonya was one of the biggest films of 2017, starring one of our fave Australian actors Margot Robbie. If you didn't catch it at the cinema, you'll get the chance to see Robbie recreate the highs and lows of figure skater Tonya Harding, who is forever remembered as the athlete who was unsuccessful in taking down her biggest Olympic opponent in 1994.
You: Season 2
Gossip Girls alum Penn Badgley stars alongside Shay Mitchell and Elizabeth Lail in this modern cult hit that skyrocketed to popularity last year. You'll be treated to a fresh new season in December, with more drama from the obsessive (and creepy) mind of this bookstore manager whose obsession with an aspiring writer is problematic, to say the least.
Fuller House: Season 5
This nostalgic series has been a hit with those who were fans of the original series Full House which inspired this spinoff where DJ Tanner-Fuller turns to her best friend and her sister to help raise her three sons under the one roof. You can expect the same wholesome content as the previous four seasons, with new relationships and lots of laughs included.
Ladybird
Ladybird is jam-packed with our favourite actors at the moment—Saoirse Ronan, Timothe Chalamet and Beanie Feldstein all appear in this independent comedy-drama about a high schooler's strained relationship with her mother and her immense desire to pack up and move to the other side of the country for college. Tune in this December as Christine "Ladybird" McPherson experiences the trials and tribulations of young adulthood, navigating friends and new relationships.
The Movies That Made Us
We've all got our all-time favourite movies that we turn to when we're in need of a little pick me up or comfort, and this original Netflix series takes us behind the scenes of the creation of these classics, with interviews featuring industry insiders, directors and the actors who made it all possible.
