9 Binge-Worthy New TV Shows to Stream in February

We’re declaring this month the month of the bio-series. There’s a bumper crop of new things to watch in February and we're excited for all of them.

Whether it’s Severance, a dystopian series by Ben Stiller that will appeal to the Black Mirror fans out there, or Inventing Anna, a re-imagination of the Anna Delvey scandal by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix, fans of true story series will be spoiled for choice in February.

Here are some of our top picks of shows you can stream this month.

9 Best TV Shows to Watch In February 2022

1. The Afterparty

Knives Out meets Game Night in this raucous comedy, starring Dave Franco, Tiffany Hadish and Ilana Glazer, streaming now on AppleTV+. Created by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind Into The Spider-Verse, the series is about a murder at a high school reunion, where everyone attending is a suspect. Very funny and very easy to watch, this is our kind of new year television.

2. Suspicion

A young man has been kidnapped from a hotel. And four ordinary people who happened to be staying at the hotel that night are the suspects. This is the plot of Suspicion, a buzzy thriller debuting on AppleTV+ in February, starring Uma Thurman as the mother of the kidnapped boy, herself a prominent woman in business whose fame propels this missing persons case into global news. Who really abducted her son? And what is the true story of this mysterious case?

3. Sweet Magnolias Season 2

Season two of this beloved Netflix series picks up right where season one left off, as Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue continue to learn more about their lives, about long-hidden secrets and about love. This is gripping, yet still lovely television at its finest, and there’s a reason why so many people fell in love with the series when it first aired in May 2020.

4. Hotel Portofino

Fans of period dramas have a lot to look forward to over the next few months, with the return of Sanditon and Bridgerton in March, as well as The Gilded Age – the new series from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes – streaming now on Paramount+. Dropping in early February is Hotel Portofino, a cosy watch set in an Italian pensione and following the lives of the guests and staff who help this hotel come alive. Australian actor Claude Scott Mitchell (The Dry) stars, and she’s definitely a new talent to watch.

5. The Girl Before

Coming in hot from the UK is this BBC thriller, a four episode whodunnit based on a bestselling novel starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and David Oyelowo. Mbatha-Raw stars as a woman who moves into a gorgeously designed house, but soon she uncovers something unsettling about the space: that a woman died there, and the woman looks suspiciously just like her. What really happened to the girl before? And is history repeating itself? The book that this series is based on is full of twists and turns, and this miniseries is similarly gripping.

6. Inventing Anna

Shonda Rhimes’ first Netflix production was Bridgerton and now she’s back with her second for the streamer, a miniseries looking into the true story of Anna Delvey, or is that Anna Sorokin, the fake heiress who conned New York’s high society. Julia Garner of Ozark fame plays Anna, while Anna Chlumsky stars as Vivian Kent, the journalist reporting Anna’s story and digging deep to uncover the truth about who this woman really is. Scammer? Con artist? Or the inheritor of the American dream? Find out on February 11.

7. Bel-Air

Forget everything you thought you know about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This new reboot, produced by Will Smith and Quincy Jones, wants to imagine the story for a new generation, following a new, present-day Will as he navigates his new life in the well-to-do surrounds of Bel-Air, Los Angeles. Fresh Prince purists might take offence with the very existence of this reboot – isn’t the original perfect enough as it is? – but given Will Smith’s involvement, it definitely seems like it’s worth watching, to see whether it sticks the landing.

8. Severance

Ben Stiller is the creator of this dystopian series, which stars Parks & Recreation’s Adam Scott as Mark, a team leader at a company where the employees have undergone a sinister medical procedure that severs their work and personal lives. No private memories or relationships can be felt during work hours, and vice versa. Is this the secret to work/life balance? Or is there something darker at play? Fans of Black Mirror are going to find plenty to dig into here, we think.

9. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Season 4

Midge is continuing on her comedy journey in this fourth season of Amazon Prime Video’s beloved hit series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. The year is 1960 and anything can happen. We love the lush production design and rapidfire wit of this series, created by Amy Sherman Palladino of Gilmore Girls fame. Something to keep an eye out for this season are the Gilmore Girls cameos: both Milo Ventimiglia and Kelly Bishop are set to make an appearance.
