This Sun-Drenched Los Angeles Bungalow Is a Pastel Paradise

You'd be forgiven for assuming that the earth-toned, eclectic paradise that Katie Mack calls home was located in sunny Palm Springs due to its distinctive mid-century-meets-boho aesthetic. Actually, this beautiful three-bedder is just a short thirty-minute drive from downtown Los Angeles, in the neighbourhood of Sunland-Tujunga. Brimming with textured rugs, pastel furniture and houseplants galore, this 1950s gem is a colour-lover's dream.

With a passion for both music and design, Katie's home is a reflection of her personality, with expertly-thrifted vintage pieces that perfectly contrast against dreamy pastel-hued wall murals for a style she describes as "desert-sunset-boho". Taking pride of place is an exquisite mid-century credenza that acts as a solid balance to an array of tactile, contemporary artworks and ceramics that are proudly displayed and further enhance the comfortable homely vibe that is so clearly evident here. The home is overflowing with the most impressive plant collection (over one hundred!) we've ever seen—rubber plants, monstera deliciosa and trailing pothos are nestled together to create an indoor jungle that breathes fresh life into each of the spaces.

We'd be remiss not to mention that sofa, too. Blush pink and velvet is always a winning combo in our eyes, but the way Katie has paired her sofa with a U-shaped coffee table, shaggy rug and arched floor lamp shows off the full extent of her designer eye. Gold accents play a big part in this Californian retreat's overall aesthetic and help to enhance the feminine tones that make this home sing. Combined with vibrant Persian rugs in rich reds and featuring geometric patterns, we're definitely jotting down decorating ideas to use at our place. Katie and her husband have created the dreamiest bedroom setup complete with warm peach walls and a custom bedhead that is a stroke of decorating genius. An eclectic and captivating collection of artworks sit side-by-side with a few more leafy friends that hang from the ceiling in handmade macrame plant holders. This unique home nestled in the mountains of LA takes cues from its Mediterranean climate, with earthy pastel hues that deliberately replicate the tones of the sunset and provide the perfect backdrop for an ever-evolving creative couple.
