11 Simple and Practical Tips for Styling a Tiny Rental Bathroom

Bathrooms are heavily overlooked when it comes to decorating or styling your home, especially if you’re renting and are limited to space. But when it comes to blissful places at home to unwind after a long day, a clean and organised bathroom will help soothe your mind (and also beats a spa any day).

So, how do you create this oasis without spending too much time, money or effort? Simply follow the below 11 tips and you'll have yourself the most incredibly tiny bathroom you'll never want to leave.

11 Simple and Practical Tips for Styling a Tiny Rental Bathroom

1. Install a floating shelf

Anything wall-hung will naturally create the illusion of a bigger space. Install floating shelves, which are not only budget-friendly but also relatively easy to install (you can install one in 20 minutes or less). It's also a great way to display a few of your favourite skincare items, a candle or even a beautiful ceramic vase.

2. Don't forget robe hooks

Again, think about what else can be installed vertically. Many people will opt for a towel rail over a robe hook, however, robe hooks work better functionally and aesthetically in a tiny bathroom. Think of it as one of the most versatile bathroom accessories you'll invest in; they can be used to save space, add style and keep your bathroom tidy and organised. Also, you need somewhere to hang your Bed Threads waffle robe so it's there ready for you to slip into after your hot shower — and a robe hook does just that.

3. Or a towel ladder

One single towel rail isn't the most practical for tiny bathrooms, so for an easy and removable solution, use a towel ladder. It can hang much more than a regular bar and it gives the bathroom a unique country-chic feel.

4. Use towels as art

Artwork can be a great addition to a bathroom, but for most of us with bathrooms on the smaller side, framed prints are best kept to the bedroom and living areas where ventilation is better and there's less chance of bumping it off the wall.

In saying that, bathrooms definitely don't have to be boring. If you're a fan of colour and pattern, choose to express it through your choice in towels. Worn out, stained or damp towels don't make the best impression on guests. Invest in lush styles like our 100% linen waffle bath and hand towels to add a touch of luxury to the space.

5. Update your taps

Outdated tapware is one of the main features that can make a bathroom look and feel unpleasant. Consider heading to the local hardware store and picking up some modern taps for your sink, shower and bath.

The difference a sleek black tap can make to a minimalist bathroom is huge, especially considering how affordable it is, too. Opt for a simple shape in matte black for a contemporary and fresh look. Or, if you're after a rustic Cottagecore vibe, choose tapware in brushed brass. And remember, it doesn’t just stop at tapware – you can also install new towel rails and hooks (more of this below). Just remember to keep the old ones if you're in a rental as you'll want to swap them back before you move out.

6. Incorporate multiple mirrors

You most likely have one mirror hanging above your vanity, but why stop there? Consider mirroring a whole wall of your tiny bathroom as the reflection of light and pattern (and sometimes even the bathroom door opening out to more space) will instantly create the illusion of a bigger space. However, if your landlord doesn't approve of a mirror wall, simply hang multiple mirrors to one wall with removable hook adhesives.

7. Use a woven basket

Clutter can make a tiny bathroom feel even tinier (which is the last thing you want to be doing). So, if you have space under your vanity or next to your shower, consider adding a woven basket to store items in. It's practical and stylish.

8. Style a tray

The best way to pull together a curated, stylish bathroom is to create simple vignettes that make it front-cover worthy.

First, use a simple tray to collate things like your most-used skincare products. Then, fill a small vase with your favourite flowers or even some freshly-picked branches from your yard, and voila! You've got yourself a cute, stylish bathroom vanity.

9. Invest in good quality hand wash

Show your hands the TLC they deserve while also styling your bathroom by investing in good quality, non-toxic hand wash. We love Sisters Body hand wash, which is made from 100% natural essential oils (yuzu, basil, cedar and more) and housed in 100 per cent recycled, biodegradable packaging. This is one essential that is guaranteed to impress your guests and prove to them that you actually have your life together. 10. Give your shower curtain a lift

If you're able to choose where your shower curtain goes, take the fabric all the way up past the usual height of the tub. This will elongate the walls and there you have it, a bigger looking bathroom!

11. Add a hanging plant

We all know plants can bring life to any bathroom (and can even help purify the air). However, just ensure you don't go overboard with the plants, especially if you're short on floor or bench space. Instead, utilise hanging plants and select a variety based on the amount of natural light and temperature it needs to stay thriving. Here’s a full guide on how to choose the right plants for each room in your home.
