10 Furniture Companies We Love on (And Off) Instagram

Furniture design is having a moment in the spotlight, as we crave individual pieces with stories. Following a brand on Instagram can be a great way to get access to the people behind the designs, learn about how products are made, and also the personal touch they offer. Sustainability is at the front of people's minds right now, as more of us want pieces that last for a long time, and, when we are finished with them, can go onto a new home. While vintage and antique pieces are still desired items, this list of makers shows that bespoke pieces can have the same charm. It also shows how furniture design styles are forming. This list offers diverse treads, but a simple aesthetic runs through them all. Have a look through these Instagram accounts to see what we mean.

@popandscott

Pop and Scott are known for their fun and cosy designs, from couches to tables and art to lighting. Started up in 2012 by couple Poppy and Scott, they focus on modern Australian design that suits any home. Wood is a loved medium, and their chairs and couches use the same style as the tables but with amazingly huge comfy cushions to sit on. Their Instagram gives style advice from their showrooms and interior design projects. It also offers glimpses to the couple and their cute family, as they roam across Australia's beaches. Not to be forgotten is the heavy plant content! You can't wrong with that popping up on your feed.

@heimurdesign

Heimur’s philosophy is centred around beautiful, bespoke wooden homewares that create space to reflect on design and art. Their Instagram unifies these concepts in an ode to both qualities while taking the viewer on a site visit through their practice. Heimur was created in 2015, as a passion project by Nathan Lawrence & Luke Van Aurich. Both self-taught, their practice takes on a personality that reflects the designers. Leaving the owners of the furniture with a piece that is made from quality materials and given the time needed to nurture its design.

@doweljones

Dowel Jones offers sleek, minimal pieces with a sharp stylistic approach, and their 'gram is filled with interiors that have been professionally fitted out to maximise the potential of the objects. Their chairs and tables are perfect for elegant spaces, or for just finishing off a cosy look with a couple of key pieces. The company was started up Dale Hardiman and Adam Lynch in 2013, who both had an aim to simplify objects. These head honchos have a fun and quirky style, and their humour pops up from time-to-time on their feed. It gives backstage passes to their companies and offers little stories at your next dinner party for your guests perched on the designer chairs.

@tide_design

Lovingly run by George Harper, who decided in 2007 to begin a brand-new career in furniture making and designing career, from humble beginnings. TIDE Design is a bespoke company meaning all pieces are unique and individual to the owners. You can order off the catalogue and feel like you are buying into a slice of magic. Their Instagram shows off their stunning designs, which again, use wood but in innovative ways. Curved edges finish simple designs and to showcase the skill of the maker. We also get to see the processes and meet the team in their posts.

@Mastfurniture

Mast is run by designers Christian Håkansson, Rory Morgan and Kati Morgan who invoke a simple, clean design in their handcrafted pieces. Soft curves balance hard textures, and all the wood sourced is FSC certified and has a traceable chain of custody. The content on their feed reveals these extraordinary objects, and come with stories about each design element. They have you thinking about every aspect of the design, from the hinges to the joinery. Every part has been considered for the aesthetics of form and style.

@bythenorth

By the north create bespoke, and visually-arresting chairs, tables and cabinets made from wood harvested from the family-owned forest in Glen-Sutton and made in their studio in Montreal's Rosemont district. Their Instagram is fun and playful and lets the viewer in on their dynamic studio time. Bending and shaping wood and metal into cool pieces, or huge chunks of wood pulled from the tree. Amazingly, furniture can be both delicate and chunky!

@jardanfurniture

Jardan, aka the designer furniture juggernaut, is so good to follow on Instagram… even though your bank balance may not agree. But, they also give heads up of upcoming outlet sales, so maybe ok? Started up in 1997, this company has grown from strength to strength! Their stunning brand is very Instagram friendly, and they often pop up on interior design feeds as well. Colour swatches and inspirations are shown, as well as new blog posts which let you into the creative world.

@mrandmrswhite_

Mr and Mrs White are a design duo called, you guessed it, Mr and Mrs Smith. They're based on Sydney's Northern Beaches, with a clean and minimal style. Gentle touches and aesthetics pair with ocean vibes to create huge curved wooden beaches, or sleek kitchen tables, that match the archways in their stores. Their Instagram is personal and heartfelt, it feels like a carefully curated window into their aesthetic and lives. We get posts about their family and becomes a way to connect with the designers. You realise you are buying more than furniture, and instead are supporting people to live their dreams.

@hachicollectionsllc

Based in New York, Hachi Collections are a fun, pop art-esque company who bring objects to life with simple, clean lines and attention to detail. Co-founded by Shuya Iida and Takafumi Toyama, Hachi celebrates a simple aesthetic that has grown out of Japanese origins. Their Instagram shows you the process and offers fantastic images to fill your feed. They have everything from curved wooden plates to light fixtures in the same style, and hardy wardrobes and side tables looking fresh from the 1970s. (It's hard not to believe they’re not vintage!) That said, the sleek wood finish screams modern, and also... buy me.

@muutodesign

Muuto is a collection of designers who all bring their individual style to the company, but they had to be included for their fun pieces! Rooted in Scandinavian traditional design, they blend the old with the new. They are a world-wide company with huge success and over 700k followers on the 'gram. Their Instagram offers sleek, minimalist style in pastel pinks, blues, and yellows; but with a fresh and fun sensibility to create amazing interiors across the globe! This is the feed to follow for the new and hottest trends.
