1. Worth

From Sophie: A Murder in West Cork to Murder Among the Mormons, Netflix has been serving us outstanding documentaries this year and Worth is another one that is sure to top the charts. The film centers on the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund and details the story of an attorney who "learns a lesson in empathy when he's faced with the near-impossible task of determining how to compensate families who suffered incalculable losses as a result of the September 11th attacks in 2001," Netflix said in a Twitter statement.

Starring a stellar cast of Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, and Amy Ryan, this is sure to be one of Netflix's most successful documentaries to date.

2. Afterlife of the Party

If you're looking for a break from a long season, this 109-minute film will provide you with fast entertainment that will also lighten your spirit. The Netflix Original comedy movie is about a social butterfly called Cassie who dies during her birthday week. OK, it doesn't sound very comical at all but hear us out — on the verge of been sent to hell, she's gifted a second chance to right her wrongs on Earth. Through this journey, she discovers who she really is, she's able to understand her friends and family on a deeper level and attempts to make amends via makeovers and dance parties.

3. Money Heist, Part 5 Volume 1

In case you're late to the party, Money Heist currently holds the record of being the most-watched non-English title on Netflix. In fact, the fourth part of the series gained a monumental 65 million views around the globe and held its spot in Netflix's 'Top 10' categories for weeks. The series is about eight thieves who take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain and it's safe to say every second of the series is thrilling, suspenseful, packed with action, and will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. 

Now, after a slew of rumors surrounding the release date of the fifth part, we finally have the answer: it'll arrive on September 3 and will be split into two volumes (the second volume will be released in December). 

Unfortunately, this will be the last of the hit series, but not to worry because after you've binge-watched your way through this, you can also watch the accompanying documentary Money heist: The Phenomenon, which was released on April 3, 2020.

4. On the Verge, Season 1

Shot in Los Angeles between the first and second waves of the pandemic, this 12-episode series ran into a three-month filming delay and COVID-safe protocols cost the production approximately $2 million — just that is enough to make this series remarkable. 

Created and co-directed by Julie Delpy, the 12-episode show follows the lives of four middle-aged women — a chef, single mum, an heiress, and a job seeker — who delve into love and work (and stumble across many midlife crises) in pre-pandemic LA.

I wanted to tell the story of these women who had children pretty late in life, who used to have more freedom and discovered maternity at 38 rather than at 25," Delpy explained in an interview with Variety. 

"I wanted to talk about how women who have children navigate their lives, and how they juggle their personal and professional lives."

Prepare to laugh and cry your way through this powerfully real show.

5. Midnight Mass

Horror fans, rejoice! The creators of critically-acclaimed Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House are back with another scary show: Midnight Mass. Directed by Mike Flanagan (who's also the brains behind The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep), this series is about an isolated, dying  town desperate to believe, who experience miraculous events and haunting omens after the arrival of a mysterious and overly-charming priest. Does anyone else already have goosebumps?

6. Lucifer, Season 6

Lucifer has been one of Netflix's biggest hits and now, it will sadly be coming to end after six seasons. 

We don't want to give away any spoilers if you haven't started watching it yet but basically, the crime-fantasy show is about the Lord of Hell (Tom Ellis) relocating to Los Angeles, where he opens a nightclub and forms a connection with a homicide detective. The series has gained so much praise that the fifth season was awarded a nomination for the 2021 Emmys for 'Best choreographed for a scripted show'.

7. LuLaRich

This four-part docuseries delves into the pyramid scheme of LuLaRoe, the clothing company that began as a multi-level marketing team scam in which people sold leggings to one another while signing up new retailers to be beneath them in the pyramid. The most frightening part? It mostly played out on Facebook. The investigative docuseries features former retailers and LuLaRoe staff members who've desperately tried to regain their lives back. 

Co-directors and executive producers Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst said: “‘LuLaRich’ is a modern comedy of errors with important social commentary. We knew from day one that the world needed another look at this wacky MLM-turned-dumpster-fire, and think this could be the birth of a whole new doc genre… True-Comedy.”

What's even juicier is the fact that LuLaRoe's co-founders DeAnne and Mark Stidham, sat down for an interview with the filmmakers to try and talk their way out of the trouble they've caused. Drama!

8. The Voyeurs

This erotic thriller is like nothing you've ever watched before. Directed by Michael Mohan, The Voyuers star Sydney Sweeney and Justice Smith as the couple who become dangerously obsessed with their neighbors' lives. Pippa (Sweeney) and Thomas (Smith) move into their dream apartment and notice that their windows look directly into the apartment opposite where a couple (Ben Hardy and Natasha Liu) do everything — we really mean, everything — with open curtains. But what starts out as n exciting game and entertainment soon becomes a dangerous obsession that drives Pippa and Thomas apart, and also exposes dangerous secrets about the mysterious couple.

This film makes you think about how human desires can feed desires and raises the question: how far will you go for another peek?

9. Sex Education, Season 3

Netflix's Sex Education has made quite the global impression after its first two seasons. The British comedy-drama series has been able to tap into a whole other genre, merging the teenage coming-of-age period with the challenges of mature-age adulthood. Now, the third season is finally coming in September and it's set to be worth the wait. 

If you're up-to-date with the show, this new season settles the cliffhanger season two left you on. And for those who haven't watched it, then we don't need to say anything else other than to grab the popcorn and turn the TV on...
