There’s a certain sort of ease that comes with the arrival of July. Temperatures are high, moods are merry, and everyone is taking life at a relaxed pace. In other words, it’s a lovely time of year to indulge in a warm weather getaway. And if you’ve been granted a few days off of work for the Fourth of July holiday, why not soak in the sun somewhere scenic? Better yet, pack a bag and head for the sea to an idyllic beachfront hotel.

A property that’s situated on the ocean has its innate benefits – access to quick dips, a 24/7 soundtrack of gently breaking waves, and a soothing salty scent. Plus, many (if not all) of these properties tend to have programming catered to the Fourth of July holiday that will make the day feel all the more festive (think: barbecue tasting menus, clam bakes, boat rides, or complimentary firework shows).

It originally opened as a motel in the 1950s and was recently restored as a boutique hotel with design inspired by surf culture and the Malibu landscape. Guests staying here have access to the rooftop restaurant, custom surfboards by McTavish (with wetsuits for rent), a heated outdoor shower, and plenty of activities by request such as picnics, horseback riding, and surf lessons.


2. The Chanler at Cliff Walk (Newport, Rhode Island)

Channel the Gilded Age at this breathtaking Rhode Island hotel that was built as a private home in 1873. The pristine gardens are rivalled by sweeping ocean vistas, and days can be spent lounging by the fire pit or soaking in your own private outdoor hot tub. The property is situated on Cliff Walk (a popular destination in Newport) and offers 20 rooms decorated in a variety of period styles with details such as elegant French doors to cement the aesthetic.
